Earth Day – Earth Week
Every day is Earth Day. A day to be conscious about what we as humans are doing to our planet.
I know in my household, we recycle all plastic, aluminum, glass and allowable paper products. We also recycle water for our garden.
Gutter Helmet.
The first step toward recycling water, was choosing Gutter Helmet.
When we chose Gutter Helmet for our gutter protection, we actually received two BIG components toward recycling the water.
The first step our local Gutter Helmet dealer performed was cleaning out our existing gutters and downspouts of all debris.
The second step was covering them with Gutter Helmet to prevent any birds, squirrels, leaves or other debris from gathering and clogging the gutters again. We then purchased a rain barrel.
We installed two rain barrels at either corner of the back of our home, cut the downspouts and installed the appropriate elbows to allow the rain from the roof to flow over the Gutter Helmet, into the gutter and down the downspout and into the Rain Barrels.
Once this first clean catchment of rain water occurs – the Barrels are full and we can use the water to keep our garden watered without turning on the hose – and the rainwater is so much cleaner!

Gutters and the History of Gutter Helmet

As some of you may know, I’m the Social Media Administrator for a variety of companies, but Gutter Helmet was my first account, and it was so easy to support. I met the Inventor, Bob Demartini in 2002 at my first Gutter Helmet convention in Florida. A tall, debonair, white-haired man with a northern accent and a twinkle in his eye carried in his hand, a Samonsite suitcase filled with a gutter, a handcrafted gutter cover (later to be called: Gutter Helmet) and a glass of water. He explained to the network of Gutter Helmet Dealers across the country who had come together for this annual event, that this case which he took to the first manufacturing firm to demonstrate how Gutter Helmet works won them over. It was amazing to see genius at work.
A brief history of the events that followed are listed below:
Established in 1981
Gutter Helmet® dates back to 1960′s when Bob Demartini, inventor of Gutter Helmet, first developed his ideas for a solid, meshless, cover guard for gutters. Granted with 3 U.S Patents, Mr. Demartini in the early 80′s began manufacturing and marketing his patented gutter protection system. He sold his assets to Masco Corporation a couple years later and licensed the exclusive rights to his patents.
In late 80′s and early 90′s, Gutter Helmet manufacturing and sales operations was established at the American Metal Products plant in TN. Over one hundred dealers were added to the network and Gutter Helmet was on its way to becoming America’s most trusted gutter protection system.
In 2001, the Gutter Helmet line was acquired by Hart & Cooley and then changed ownership in 2006 when SEMCO acquired the line.
